Yankees back-up catcher and solid hitter Brian McCann (who the Yankees shopped in the off-season from the Atlanta Braves), became the hero in today’s game vs. the Chicago White Sox at Monument Park AKA Yankee Stadium in the Bronx… with a walk-off three run HR in the bottom of the ten inning!
Brian McCann homerun was kinda poetic. As you watched the game, especially in the top of the ninth when the Chi-Sox tied the game at four, you started thinking the Yankees gonna give up another tight game. Many disappointed and begrudging fans had already left the stadium. Then in the bottom of the tenth with two outs, McCann stepped to the plate (pinch hitting in place of Francisco Cervelli) and changed the dynamic to that thought, (blasting a three-run HR to put the Yankees ahead 7-4, ending the game).
Just as the Yankees were starting to look lost, down and out, lack of being a contender for the Playoff’s, things are starting to look up again. Following this three game sweep on the Chi-Sox and four game winning streak, the Yankees have improved to 67-61 and firmly in second place in the AL East division (see chart below). The Yankees are still 3 1/2 games out of the Wild-Card in terms of the Playoff standings, so we have to win two out of each three game series here out.
